House Energy and Commerce Committee Republications on April 25 sent a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Michael Regan urging the agency to reconsider its plan to open the Renewable Fuel Standard to certain sources of renewable electricity.

Calumet Specialty Products Partners L.P. on April 25 announced that its Montana Renewables subsidiary has completed the startup of its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and pretreatment units. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for May 10.

Fluor Corp. announced April 20 that it has signed a license agreement with Federated Co-Operatives Limited for the application of Fluor’s Econamine FG Plus carbon capture technology at FCL’s Co-op Renewable Diesel Complex in Saskatchewan.

Wizz Air on April 24 announced a £5 million investment in a biofuel company, Firefly. The partnership with Firefly will allow the airline to supply SAF to its U.K. operations from 2028, up to 525,000 metric tons over 15 years.

Drax Group CEO Will Gardiner discussed the status of the company’s BECCS projects in the company’s Q1 trading update, released April 26. He said the company has entered formal discussions with the U.K. government and is evaluting U.S. projects.

Valero Energy Corp.’s renewable diesel segment set a new sales volume record during Q1 while its ethanol segment reported a profitable three-month period with higher production volumes. The company is also progressing with plans to produce SAF.
